My June crochet roundup
Where did that month even go? I do adore June though, with the light evenings. There’s something quite special about being able to do gardening at 9pm, with the scent of honeysuckle in the warm air. The beautiful displays in my garden inspired my crochet too.
One particular flower themed project which got a lot of attention last month was my rose cushion. I don’t actually have a name for that project yet, so if you have any ideas please share them! Roses are one of the flowers of the month for June and the one we planted in spring had its first stunning peach blooms. We bought it using some money which my Nanny gave us when we moved house last year, she requested we buy something for the garden to remember Grandad with. I took great delight in phoning her to tell her about the flowers and I could imagine her smiling on the other end of the line.

I’m working on the pattern now and typing it up ready to send to testers and then my tech editor before publishing it, but I’ll keep you updated.
June temperature blanket
June also saw some very warm weather, and I needed to use a new colour in my temperature blanket. The colours of my blanket are inspired by this year’s Almanac. I chose shades from the Yarnsmiths Create DK range. It’s been a joy to work on so far, and having a project which is intentionally slow to make has been a pleasant change from working to deadlines. Now half of the year is there, it makes me wonder what the other half will look like!

Patterns published in June
I also had another pattern published in a magazine in June. My Rose and Gerbera wreath features in the latest issue of Crochet Now magazine. Flowers are one of my favourite things to design and make. The challenge of trying to recreate the shapes of their petals is a great skills test! If you’re keen to learn more about how to design for magazines, you can read my blog post about it here. It seems funny seeing it now when I was making it in February!

Crochet problem solving
Earlier in June I had an experience that felt like a minor disaster. As well as being a crochet designer and tech editor, I am also caretaker at our village hall. I often listen to an audiobook whilst setting out the hall. On this occasion, I had a real panic as I couldn’t find my earbuds anywhere. They were a Christmas present from my husband and I was really worried I’d lost them forever. I turned my bag upside down, used all of the ‘find my tech’ apps on my phone and so on but there was no sign of them. I gave up temporarily, needing to get my jobs done.
Later on they turned up – they were in my bag the whole time, tucked into the folds of a shopping bag in my handbag! I’d like to point out here that my bag is not some enormous Mary Poppins bag and is actually fairly small so goodness knows how I missed them! I decided I needed a little holder for them that I could clip to the handle of my bag and prevent that happening again.
That’s where crochet comes into it! A little bit of scrap yarn and handy clip later, my ear buds are safe and sound. I’m planning to write up the pattern and also make another earbuds holder using cotton yarn which will be much harder wearing. What do you think to it?

That was about all for my June crochet projects, how was your month? Did you make lots too? Summer can be a funny time for crochet, especially when the weather is really hot! If you’d like some summer crochet ideas and tips, you can find them here.
