Top seven bright and breezy summer crochet ideas
Are you wondering how to get your crochet fix during warmer weather? This roundup of summer crochet ideas will hopefully inspire you to try a new project whilst staying cool! (Big blankets might be out, but there’s a whole world of crochet projects waiting to be discovered.)
1) Summer crochet flowers

Flowers make the perfect summer crochet project as they are small and portable for going in a little bag. Ideal for crocheting out and about! They’re also a great way to use up scraps of yarn. Why not try my summer flower wreath and bring the countryside into your home!
2) Bunting
Bunting is a fabulous summer crochet project as you can use it to decorate your home and garden. Wouldn’t this hollyhock inspired bunting look fabulous to decorate a gazebo for a hot summer barbecue?

3) Fancy squares

Why not take time to try out new stitch patterns with one of the many intricate square patterns that are available? They’re a great way to explore new techniques and at the end of it you’ll have some pretty squares to make a cushion or blanket once the weather cools down a little.
This Fancy Floral square by Chroma Crochet is just beautiful and is available on Etsy!
4) Amigurumi
Amigurumi isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but they are generally small projects so you won’t get too hot making them. If you’ve never tried it, now is the perfect time to have a go! (They’re such fun to crochet too, and make wonderful gifts.)
This Block Rainbow by Making Polly is so cute, a perfect nursery decoration and is available on Etsy!

5) Hats and mittens

Whilst these aren’t the first thing you think of in summer, they are useful! You can get ahead with gift crochet, if that’s your thing. Small projects like these are also a perfect use for those single skeins of hand dyed yarn.
My She Sells Sea Shells mittens are simple but will show off a pretty hand dyed yarn beautifully. You can buy the pattern on Etsy and Ravelry (it also includes instructions for making them into wrist warmers so it’s great value!)
6) Bookmarks
Bookmarks and other little projects are great to make and put away for stocking filler gifts or to give away as random acts of kindness. They don’t take long either so you can soon build up a stock of them for those occasions where you might need them. They’re also a fabulous way to use up the tiniest scraps of yarn.
My free Periwinkle bookmark pattern is super quick to whip up.

7) Socks

When people mention handmade socks, they often think of knitting but there are lots of crochet sock patterns out there! Socks are also another project that is a perfect way to use hand dyed yarn. You might be pleased you made them when it’s colder!
This crochet slipper sock pattern by The Fairy Thorn will keep your toes cosy and stylish in the winter, available on Ravelry..
There you have it, seven different crochet projects to try this summer. Which will you make first?
